To See The Truth
If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinions for or against anything.
“If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinions for or against anything. To set up what you like against what you dislike is the disease of the mind.” -The Great Way from the 3rd Chinese Patriarch read by Ram Dass (see below)
I stumbled upon this quote recited by Ram Dass while sitting in front of the fireplace, drinking tea, scrolling Instagram and pondering what I could write about. Yet another Saturday night was spent exactly as I like, peaceful and cosy. This video immediately caught my attention and I played it many times to absorb every word and write it out correctly. How would you interpret this? It resonated with me as I’ve been living by similar philosophies since I completed my Mediation Teacher Training. We know and understand so little both as individuals and as a collective, to say you know anything for sure outside of yourself is arrogant and ignorant.
By removing your opinions and not holding onto them tightly, you’re no longer clouded by your narrow individual perspective. It leaves you open to further understanding and learning. It also allows you to live more peacefully by no longer holding the tension of your conflicting internal hard “truths”. Be flexible in your thoughts and beliefs as most of what is happening in the world is irrelevant to your happiness. Everything in life is forever changing, impermanent, and so much more beautiful when you allow it to flow through you.
I challenge you to loosen your grip on your opinions or even let them go, and see what happens. You’ll see the world very differently by letting go and letting be.
