Root Cause Therapy - My First Experience.

Clearing 50 years of Limiting Beliefs and Trauma

Today I had my first Root Cause Therapy (RCT) session with a fellow student, it’s part of the requirements for our certification. I’ve taken part in similar therapies in the past, namely, Timeline Therapy. What I appreciate about the RCT process is the ease with which your limiting beliefs are uncovered using the Sway Test. Also, each following session is easily measured against the previous ones so you can see and feel the progress you make.

I’m now 50 years old and the first 50 years of my life (and beyond) has been filled with trauma and my nervous system has taken a beating, hence fibromyalgia and other mental and health issues I’ve experienced throughout my life. I want to clear the main reasons holding me back from achieving the dreams I have in life. I want the next 50 years to feel free and I want to fully enjoy my life, to be like a gentle fresh breeze flowing through the world.

Today my limiting beliefs were ‘life is hard’ and ‘I need to struggle’, both major reflections on my life and ones I want to release. How can I be a breeze when life is hard and I need to struggle?

The first one ‘Life is Hard’ took me back to 8 months in the womb. A strong feeling of anxiety overtook me, my chest felt tight and my breath was hard to take. As the emotions in my body were being processed and felt, I sat with the discomfort. I shook, vibrated, cried, took deep breaths and slowly over those few minutes the discomfort left my body and I felt lighter and relieved. Afterwards, our unconscious mind or higher self what they learnt or the message was from the experience. For this limiting belief the message was ‘it’s not mine’ and ‘it’s not mine to carry’.

After I came back to the present moment, I was offered the opportunity to work on another limiting belief. I said yes and I chose ‘I need to struggle’. Again, up I go above my timeline and fly to the past. This time it’s the 5-year-old version of me. I love visiting her, she’s such a sweet little girl, but she’s scared of the world. I love to hug and reassure her. She was at her school and there were 3 children in the distance. I’m not sure what the struggle was or the details of the event as I dissociated.

Dissociation or the freeze response has been my default Nervous System response for most of my life. This was a different experience to any others I’ve ever had. I was unsure if there was anything here as nothing was happening, but then I realised to trust the process as I had no idea what my higher self wanted me to experience. So I went with the numb floatiness of dissociation. I checked out a few times, almost falling asleep and eventually I came back to myself. I finally processed the freeze state I was in at 5 years old.

The message my higher self shared was beautiful, ‘follow your heart’ and ‘follow your path’, if you follow your heart and path, there is no struggle. There is no one in front to compare or distract you. I think this is a beautiful message for everyone.

By the end of the session, I felt light, but heavy in the body from feeling relaxed. I was yawning, which is a sign of your vagus nerve down-regulating into a calm state. Afterwards, you need to take it easy, drink plenty of water and gently move the body.

It will all integrate over the next few days to a week and I’ll see what comes up for me. Of course, I’ll share and update this post.

I’m currently creating my course The Healed Woman, soon I’ll be asking for participants in the first beta round.

It’s for anyone who is on the path of healing, feeling stuck, rebuilding their lives or ready to uplevel their life. Together we’ll reimagine and rewrite your story past, present and future.
